Miyamoto is most famous for his two-sword technique called niten'ichi'. In this technique, the swordsman uses a large sword and a companion sword at the same time.
It is said that he was inspired by the movement of temple drummers, although this is all speculation. It seems more likely that through extreme amount combat experience, he came up with it through natural selection or from his early technique taught by his father which paired a jitte with a sword. The jitte would parry while the sword struck.
Miyamoto was a loner. He spent most of his life studying buddhism and swordsmanship.
In his life, he followed the more artistic side of bushido. He made several paintings and calligraphy. And before his death, he finished up a book called the The book of Five Rings.
